The problem

You feed Paylean because it works. It also asks a lot of him.

Nobody reaches for a ractopamine product by accident. You feed it because it does three things and it does them reliably: increased rate of gain, improved feed efficiency, and increased carcass leanness in a finishing pig.

And you already know the other half, because it is printed on every bag of it in the country, including ours.

Ractopamine may increase the number of injured and fatigued pigs during marketing.

That is the caution on the label and we are not going to pretend it is not there. You are asking a pig to lay down muscle at a rate he would not have on his own, and his feet and his legs are the part that has to carry it.

And before any of that, check your show rules. A number of shows have banned ractopamine outright. There is a section on it further down and it is the most important thing on this page.

What is different about this one

Most ractopamine products are the drug and a carrier

That is the whole bag. The drug, something to carry it, and a tag.

Fired Up is the drug plus two things we put in on purpose, aimed at the part of him that has to carry the load.

DuoPort 2.0, our chelated mineral technology. Patent pending. The minerals are bonded to amino acids, so they absorb intact through the mouth and the gut lining instead of getting tied up on the way. It is the same mineral technology the TrueTrac line is built on, and it is in here for the same reason: structure.

Biotin. For the feet that are doing the standing and the walking while all of that is going on.

Plus lysine, methionine and threonine, omega fatty acids from flaxseed, and essential oils for palatability, because a dose he will not eat is not a dose.

We are not telling you this takes the caution off the bag.

We are telling you we did something about it, which is more than a plain ractopamine premix does. The caution is real, it is on our label like everybody else’s, and the answer we had was to feed the pig something for the part that carries the weight.

How to mix it

Two rates, and the label tells you both

Mix it into a non medicated show pig feed that is at least 16% crude protein, to land between 4.5 and 9 grams per ton of ractopamine.

Feed the resulting mix continuously as the sole ration.

The rules on the bag

Four of them, and they are not suggestions

  • Finishing swine weighing not less than 150 lb.
  • In a complete ration containing at least 16% crude protein.
  • For the last 45 to 90 pounds of gain before he goes. That is pounds of gain, not days.
  • Not for use in breeding swine.

A pig under a hundred and fifty pounds is not who this is for, and neither is any animal headed into a breeding program. A show gilt you are showing and selling is a market animal; a gilt you are keeping back to breed is not.

Label caution: ractopamine may increase the number of injured and/or fatigued pigs during marketing. Not for use in breeding swine.

Read this before you buy

Check your show rules first

This one is not on the label, and it matters more than anything that is.

A number of shows have banned ractopamine outright. Some counties. Some states. It is not universal, it is not consistent, and it changes, which is exactly why you have to go and look instead of assuming.

A rule you did not read is still a rule.

Check the rule book for every show you are pointed at before you feed the first ounce. Finding this out at the scale is finding it out too late, and there is no undoing it once he has had it.

If your shows have banned it, this is not your product. We would rather you knew that now than after.

What a bag covers

Twenty five pounds, and what it turns into

Fired Up is a premix, so the useful number is how much finished feed it makes.

At 9 grams per ton, a 25 lb bag makes about 300 pounds of finished feed. On a pig eating six pounds a day that is around fifty days, which covers most of a 45 to 90 pound finishing window.

At 4.5 grams per ton it makes about 600 pounds, so roughly twice that, or two pigs.

Bag or bucket

The refill bag and the bucket hold the same 25 pounds of the same product. The bucket is six dollars more and it is a container, not a better version.

Running it with TrueFit

They do different jobs

Plenty of people run Fired Up alongside TrueFit 2.0 to get shape and attractiveness on faster. They are not doing the same thing and they work together.

The craft stays yours

Fired Up does not decide whether to feed Paylean and it does not decide when to start. It gives you the same drug everybody else sells with something in the bag for the pig that has to carry it, and the reading of the animal is still yours.

Straight answers

Does this have the same side effects as other ractopamine products?It carries the same label caution, because it is the same drug: ractopamine may increase the number of injured and fatigued pigs during marketing. We are not going to tell you otherwise. What we did was put DuoPort 2.0 and biotin in the bag, aimed at the structure and the feet that have to carry the load, which a plain ractopamine premix does not do.
How much do I mix?A quarter pound of Fired Up into 5.75 lb of non medicated show pig feed gives you 4.5 grams per ton. Half a pound into 5.5 lb gives you 9 grams per ton. By the ton it is 83 lb or 167 lb of Fired Up.
What kind of feed do I mix it into?A non medicated show pig feed with at least 16% crude protein. That is on the label and it is not optional, because the ractopamine claim depends on the protein being there to build with.
How long do I feed it?For the last 45 to 90 pounds of gain before he goes. Note that is pounds of gain, not days on feed.
How big does he need to be?At least 150 pounds. Under that he is not who this product is for.
Is ractopamine allowed at my show?You have to check, and you have to check for every show you are pointed at. Can I feed it to a show gilt?Yes, if she is a market animal. A gilt in your show barn that you are showing and selling is not a breeding animal, and if she needs the muscle to be competitive then feed it. The line is what you intend to do with her, not that she is a gilt. Once she becomes a breeding animal, Paylean is off limits. If you are keeping her back to breed, or you think you might, do not feed it.
